How to Overcome Shyness

Many people I’ve known in my life told me they struggle with public speaking or socializing with strangers because of their shyness. I can’t help but say I also struggle with this issue a lot.

But are there any effective ways to help overcome this shyness? This post will contain a few links and suggestions to videos you can view to help with this issue.

Before you dive into how to get rid of being shy, here is a link that takes you to an article that unravels what being “shy” truly is, and even tells you about the benefits of this trait! https://kidshealth.org/en/teens/shyness.html

This article tells you not only about the mental changes you can make to improve your shyness but also the technical things in your daily life that may be affecting your approach to socialization (such as coffee drinking and more): https://psychcentral.com/anxiety/tips-for-overcoming-social-anxiety-and-shyness#consider-therapy Now, I thought it would be helpful to mention what I did to overcome my shyness. If I was able to help my social anxiety with this simple, I believe that it can help several others who struggle with my same problem.

The suggestion I want to give is to ‘listen to podcasts’. Listening to podcasts not only lets you naturally listen to peoples’ communication but also feeds you with interesting information that you can own and share with those around you. The reason why I claim this is helpful to overcome shyness is that it improved my public speaking and also encouraged me to communicate with others as I had interesting information that I could talk about or teach others.

Here is a podcast I recommend you to listen to before you sleep, when you’re painting, in a taxi, while eating, and any free time you can cut. https://youtu.be/JJeH-W_W6mo

I hope these were able to at least provide ideas or insights to those who want to improve their shyness, as I also had a long journey to improve my socialization skills. There’s nothing wrong with being shy, but there are also many benefits that come your way once you decide to overcome this part of yourself.

How to Know if You are Being Taken Advantage of

Ever heard of the term “ friends with benefits ”? It’s when two individuals form a friendship in expectation of each other’s wants and needs whether that is money, fame, or can even be as simple as to cope with loneliness. However, there are some cases when a friendship is formed with contrasting purposes . More specifically, one side might have formed the friendship purely seeking for someone they can find comfort and kindness with, while the other side has formed the friendship looking for something that will benefit only themselves in secret. We call this situation “ taken advantage of ”, as one person uses the idea of friendship to take over (or use for their own benefit) the other person’s belongings/power without making it seem obvious . For example, I once had a friend who only approached me in a social area with the intention of using the pool at my house. She was only nice to me when she wanted something from me, which can be hard to identify as they make the situatio...

Anxiety of Group Projects

As an introvert, I always HATED group projects . The idea of being put in a position to collaborate with people you don’t know was something that stressed me out a lot as a student. However, I also understood that collaboration was an educational objective that demonstrated a student’s performance in school and that it was important for me to overcome this fear so that I didn’t struggle later on in life. So, how do you approach group activities without affecting your stress level? There are great responses people have answered to this question in previous years. For example, view this Quora post that discusses the question “How do I overcome the fear of group discussion?” : Additionally, this article explores “Ways to Handle Group Discussion Phobia”. Group work is part of growing in life . Sources like such are available everywhere on the internet, but all tell the same advice : Never let fear get to you, and believe in yourself.
